160x160mm Robotic drawing (part 2 - drawing)

Making Geoffrey into a real boy

Prep:

Separate the hatching on the hat (so that I can make it a separate colour).

Setting up all the codes (thanks to the shared ones).

Oops...not to scale.

There he is.

Drawing timed booked.

Drawing:

Okay...so...
I really wanted to use this black paper I had, along with some white and metallic gel pens.
Small problem...

It kept moving. This paper is thicker, so the magnets weren't enough. (I also suspect that I had the pen too low. But I digress.)
Tape to the rescue!
(I did that thing where you stick the tape to your clothes before using it to make sure that it wouldn't leave any weird residue anywhere).

Here are the two separate gcodes successfully running in pronterface.

Progress Montage:

Minor problem:

The paper wasn't tall enough, so I had to add in another piece to make sure that everything fit. (I was able to easily wipe off the white gel pen from the printer bed, so no worries on that front).

Montage continued:

It should be noted that the gel pens...don't always perfectly draw...so some lines are missing because the pen wasn't drawing, my solution was to rotate the pen every once in a while.

Anyway...hat time.

And...
here he is!

Geoffrey is a real boy!

I ultimately decided to not redo any of the missing lines with another pass because 1. I thought it looked good the way it was (especially the eye on the left where the pen cut in and out, that is a cool texture). 2. It is neat to see the difference from the drawing in Rhino. 3. My time was up.
Also of note, I would up the line limit (to exclude too small of lines) next time because there was a lot of dotting happening.

But he's here and he's glorious.
